Workshop Description:
Step into the world of Malaysian batik, a cherished heritage craft that combines fabric art, color, and storytelling. In this hands-on session, participants will experience the traditional art of batik coloring using authentic tools and dyes, just as artisans across Southeast Asia have done for generations.
You will learn how to blend colors, layer patterns, and bring intricate designs to life on fabric, discovering how this centuries-old practice continues to be worn and celebrated across Malaysia and the wider region. The experience is both creative and calming - a chance to slow down, connect, and create something wonderful.
Techniques and Skills Learned:
Introduction to the batik coloring process
Understanding color systems and basic color design
How to mix and apply dyes on fabric
Creating gradients, depth, and harmony through layering
Exploring cultural motifs and patterns inspired by Southeast Asian heritage

About the Instructor:
Ujay is a creative educator and artisan, he has taught batik to people all over the world from his Art studio & café in Langkawi and now brings the cultural richness of the Malaysian region to Dubai through community-centered workshops for youth, families, and art lovers.
